For the first time ever in China's energy history, new energy power generation capacity has exceeded that of coal power production; with green energy production and supply continuing to deepen its impact on overall electricity output and distribution within the country."
On July 23, the China Electricity Council reported that in the first half of this year, China's newly installed power generation capacity reached 153 million kilowatts. Among this capacity, the newly connected grid wind and solar power installations accounted for 128 million kilowatts, representing 84% of the total new power generation capacity. As of the end of June, China's total installed full-caliber power generation capacity had reached 3.07 billion kilowatts, marking a year-on-year increase of 14.1%. Coal power accounted for 1.17 billion kilowatts, or 38.1% of the total installed power generation capacity. The grid-connected wind power capacity had reached 470 million kilowatts while grid-connected solar power had reached 710 million kilowatts, accounting for 38.4% of the total installed capacity of 1.18 billion kilowatts.
