In order to control and supervise product quality, countries around the world have their own set of product management standards. The following is a brief introduction to the world's common standards ISO, American ASTM, Japanese JIS, and Chinese GB/T.

 

American standard ASTM
Meaning: ASTM is the abbreviation of American Society of Testing Materials. ASTM standards cover materials, products, systems, and services.
Formulating organization: ASTM's technical committee organizes representatives from all walks of life to participate in technical symposiums to discuss and resolve controversial issues related to material specifications, test procedures, etc. After a century of development, ASTM currently has 33,669 members (individuals and groups), of which 22,396 main committee members serve as technical experts in its various committees. There are a total of 2004 technical subcommittees under ASTM's technical committees. 105,817 units participated in the formulation of ASTM standards.
Purpose: To promote the development and promotion of relevant knowledge.

Japanese standard JIS:
Meaning: JIS is the abbreviation of Japanese Industrial Standards. JIS standards are the most important and authoritative standards among Japanese national standards.
Developing organization: JIS is organized and reviewed by the Japan Industrial Standards Survey Committee (JISC).
Purpose: According to the provisions of the Japanese Industrial Standardization Act, in addition to special standards or technical specifications for pharmaceuticals, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, silk, food and other agricultural and forestry products, JIS standard objects also involve various industrial fields.
Content: JIS standards include product standards (product shape, size, quality, performance, etc.), method standards (testing, analysis, detection and measurement methods and operating standards, etc.), and basic standards (terms, symbols, units, priority numbers, etc.).
Impact: The total number of JIS standards has remained at around 8,200 since 1990. As of the end of March 2006, there were 9,728 current JIS standards. The majors involved in these standards include construction, machinery, electrical, metallurgy, transportation, chemicals, mining, textiles, papermaking, medical equipment, ceramics and daily necessities, information technology, etc.

China GB/T
Meaning: National standard GB/T refers to the recommended standard of China's national standards, where "GB" represents national standards and "T" represents recommendation.
Formulating organization: China National Standardization Administration Committee
Purpose: To promote the development of China's standardization work, improve the quality of products and services, and promote the development of the national economy.
Formulation process: The process of formulating GB/T standards requires extensive solicitation of opinions, reaching consensus, and going through expert review and publicity. At the same time, GB/T standards must also comply with the requirements of international standards and national laws and regulations.
Role: Through the implementation of GB/T standards, product quality and safety, technological innovation and progress, as well as market competition and international trade can be promoted.
